Confidentiality

Yarnell Consultation values the privacy of our work together. The general nature of our work together in consultative relationships with large organizations and institutions may be shared unless privacy is requested (e.g., to provide clients with a broad history of past experiences and collaborations). Consultation with specific individuals, relationships, and circumstances are generally confidential, and there may be exceptions. Clients and client information may be discussed by staff within Yarnell Consultation for administrative, supervisory, purposes. In consultative relationships with organizations and institutions, information from conversations may be disclosed to other individuals within the organization or institution, depending on the nature of the relationship. The following exceptions may also occur:

  • We are required by law to report all cases of abuse, abandonment, neglect, or exploitation of minors, the elderly, and disabled or otherwise or vulnerable adults. Past abuse must be reported when there is any possibility of current danger to any child, elderly or disabled person (e.g., a child lives with the abuser).
  • When there is clear and present danger, including the potential for intentional or unintentional serious injury or death by suicide or homicide.
  • When a client is a minor, we may release information to a parent or guardian.
  • When a court order is received from a judge who mandates the release of information.
  • We may be required to disclose information to authorized federal officials conducting national security and intelligence activities or providing protective services to important officials. By law we cannot reveal when we have disclosed information to the government (e.g., Patriot Act).
